Ten Canoes is a unique window into the traditional way of life of the Australian Aboriginal Ganalbingu people who have inhabited north-eastern Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory of Australia for at least 65,000 years.
The film is set in the distant past in tribal times. The central character Dayindi covets one of his older brother’s wives. To teach him the proper way, he is told a story from the mythical past – a story of wrong love, kidnapping, sorcery, bungling mayhem and revenge gone wrong.
